Send Campaign Email Workflow Issue - Please help

So I am setting up a workflow to send a welcome campaign email to customers who sign up for our newsletter.  Seems simple enough.

I have a field set on the customer record that is the criteria of the saved search which is the condition to initiate the workflow (on create of new customer). What I need to do then is send a campaign email and then also set a field value on the customer record.  I can get the workflow to one or the other, but not both.  I have tried many different combinations of triggers and states and transitions.  I can't seem to get anything to work to execute both actions.
