Importing item weight when importing sales orders

Is there any way of picking up the item weight on the sales order item lines when importing XML sales orders. If the item weight cannot be imported, can we import this into a custom field? If so, what should the label element be? We tried itemLine_itemweight (ie. the custom field label).
