smbxml/webservices to get data out or access it?

can you get the data out and use in other web apps via smbxml or webservices?

or even out just to store to media?

i just want to make sure that this is possible before i go learn how to use those features.

i'm pretty sure you can access it via odbc connector but i cant afford that module.
