Script to remove auto-generated customer numbers

Hi,
Does anyone know how to overwrite the customers' auto-generated number (ID) with the company name field <NLCOMPANYNAME> ?

I want to remove the auto-generated numbers for all our customer records (lead/prosp/cust), and we have over 10k of these records, so we definitely need to do it through either a script or mass update.
