Custom fields for company/user preferences

Are there any plans to make available custom fields at the company/user preference level (i.e., not tied to a specific record)? This would come in very handy for suite scripts / suitelets, etc.

This would be kind of a global custom record or registry of parameters and values.

For example, this can be used to store login information for an external web service that is invoked from a suite script. While a custom record can be used for this, it does not make much sense, since you need only a single record to store this information.
