How do you attach contact to a job?

Using server side scripting, how can you attach one or more contacts to a job? These contacts already have a "primary" company associated with them; in addition to this, they need to be also attached to a job (in the UI, the Companies tab).

It does not seem possible to update a contact to add multiple companies/jobs that are not the primary company.

Are there any other ways to do this?
