new role permission error

With the upgrade this weekend to 2007.1 we have a new permission error for our sales rep roles. We have all sales rep roles available to view Partners as we have important information there, but we get this error now when trying to access any partner:

Permission Violation: The restrictions on your role deny you access to this record.

Normally restriction errors give more detail as to where to unrestrict the role, so admin people, like myself, can fix the problem if it needs fixing. This gives no detail. If a role has the rights to view Partners, why can't they view partners?
