Customizing Order Recieved Email

I want to add the "item Name/Number" field into the email that sends to us when  a new order is made, but when you go to customize the email that it sends out, you can only customize where the items are placed in the email (known as {4} ) .

Is there a place than I can customize this {4} variable ? or just set up a new email template to send out completely .... this is aweful.

Any help that can be given would be great
