Null value in custom list

Hi All,

I've done some custom lists... but I need the ability to have a null value or just a blank option on the multiple-select field. 

So - the situation is...  I use this custom list.  I select 1 of 5 options on the list.  Then ... a month later, I want to just remove any option from being used (blank space or null value).  Any clue how I can make a field = 'null' in a list so I can deselect a previously selected option on the list?

Hopefully this wasn't too confusing..
