nlapiSubmitField with multi-select

The nlapiSubmitField function ..."Updates one or more body fields or custom fields on a record"

Does anyone know if a multi-select body field will work with this function?

I am not having any problems with just plain text fields, but I have a few multi-selects that seem to be throwing an "Invalid reference key [null]" error
