Custom field with formula

I have created a custom field in my customer form called ID Flag.  I would like to populate this field using an argument that would return:

If the last invoice date for the customer is within the last rolling year - leave the field blank

If the last invoice date for the customer is not within the last rolling year - populate the field with the letter A

If anyone can offer advice on how to do something like this, it will be greatly appreciated.
