change custom field on another custom record

dear all,

could any tackle this chalenge for me

-I have 2 custom records
1. Book Record
2. Borrowed book Record



- under custom record "Book Record" i have a field named "book available" which is a check box checked by default.


- under custom Record "Borrowed Book Record" i have 2 fields "returned" and "date Returned" also a field "available referenced from the "book available" field from "Book Record" that show if a book is available


- i want the custom form from "Borrowed Book record" to perform the following once i click on save

1. check if any of the 2 fields "returned" or "date available" have values if any does not have a value it should save and alert the user that one of the buttons are unchecked but it should not uncheck the "Book available" field from the custom record "book record" it should just save the record normally
