Calling a field on child record from the parent

Hello Ug,

Does anyone have an idea on how to call  a field on a child record from the parent, using a user event script?I've tried calling it on by using the 'field id' as it's found on the child record;but i'm getting 'cannot find record'.
Here's the scene:
I have a customrecord1 with fields:
history and Total
and another customrecord2(which is parent to customrecord1).
I want to call the 'total field' from customrecord2;but i can't figure out how to do the join.Any contribution would be appreciated.
