suitescript alert for changing lead to customer

hi friends
an alert should be sent to the respective person(lead or customer)
when sales rep changes entity status from lead qualified to the customer.
is this fuctionality possible using suitescipts? i.e event should be fired when this happens ,is this possible using java web service also.
please guide me for the rest also provide some code samles
