Error Processing for Customizing Login and Logout

I'm trying to customize the login and logout so when someone logs in through my own link on the NS web site, they go to the customer center and all the other tabs disappears. Following the example in the online help, it works perfectly unless you make an error or when you log out. Then the customer once again sees NS logo and sign in.

Has anyone else written the javascript error processing or logout code? I can hack my way through easy javascripting, but really could use some direction on this.
