Dynamically alter a dropdown lists options

I'd like to dynamically alter the contents of a dropdown list depending on the selection in a different dropdown list. Usually I'd run a small bit of jQuery one the change handler to alter the <option> elements in the <Select> but it looks like Netsuite dropdowns dont work like that.

Does anyone know of a way to change the items in a dropdown list dynamically when a different dropdown change event fires?
