Check Item Availability

On the check item availability screen, does anyone have a creative way of pulling information from the item record?  We would like to see the Sales Description and some other pertinent information on Check Item Availability when an item is entered (not the pop-up from sales order).  This should be easy to do, but I think may require scripting.  Thanks for any suggestions.
