Custom Search Questions

I have some very basic questions about creating custom searches:

1) How do you limit the results of the search to only show the "*" (transaction total) lines?

2) How do you show a total (for example, the total of the amount of the transactions shown on the search), without compressing all of the detail using the Summary Type = Sum function?
