Custom Sales Order Transactions Summary

I am trying to build a report to bill people monthly rather then for every sales order.. I keep running into a problem with including tax in the report.. Total aggregate amount shows only the charges for the products not tax, and Total from transaction line will not let you add the 'grand total' at the bottom.. Every form of 'Tax' I find for separate columns to put next to aggregate amount show up as 0.00 or 'Yes/No' (Is Taxable).. I know there must be a way to do this!!
