Sorting reports with parent/child - can't export

Ok, I know that it is an enhancement request for Netsuite to be able to export and keep the collapse feature in effect on the export.  The problem we are having is trying to build a report that will "stack" for us the total sales for a customer (in a given period).  The sales by customer report gives us the information but because we use parent/child we only want the total of the parent.  So we can collapse.  However, we can't get the report to sort by TOTAL.  It sorts by each invoice.  We want just the total for each
