Tracking multiple sales

I am finding support doesn't quite understand tracking sales, so I am hoping someone out there has done what I am looking for. I want to find out if a cutomer brought Item A, what other items did he buy?
The report would look like:

Sam:   Item A      Item B    Item C
Sally:  Item A      Item E    Item F
Jim:    Item B       Item C   Item D

I also want a report that shows if they brought Item A, how many have they brought before:

Sam:    Item A   (brought 3 items previosuly)
Sally:    Item A   (brought 2 itmes previously)
Jim      Ietm B    (brought zero item previously)
