Search Filter works backwards

I have a project report which includes some task fields, including task status.  I am using Task: Status as an available filter and it appears beautifully.

However, if I filter on "In progress" then I get everything except "in progress" etc.

I cannot begin to imagine where I could fix this.  Thanks, Jean
