Matrix report summarized accrows columns by custom field

I am creating a custom matrix report (forecast) and I would like to summarize data across the columns using a custom field called "Item Collection": we have over 200 items, so we cannot summarize by item.

When I select the field at the step "Select how you want to summarize the data across columns", no custom field is showing.

Has anyone tried to create such a report? Can we only summarize data across columns by hard-coded fields?
