Need a report for Avg purchase cost - is this possible?

We run FIFO costing method and I have attempted several times to create a report that shows the average purchase cost for inventory we have on hand. Is there an easy way to do this? Right now the field Puchase Cost brings up a cost that may or may not match a layer of costs within our inventory on hand - I really do not know what this field represents. The other field I found was last purchase cost which is good but is not what I need if I have FIFO layers of inventory. Any suggestions?
