Reporting on a custom formula

I need to create a report on a complex custom formula by employee over time. Because I need to plot employees vs time - I need to use a matrix report. A search wont do the job.

Formula capability in reporting is very basic - so doesn't do the job.

To build the report I need to create a formulaic custom field outside of the reporting (stored as values so that the report can run on it).

1. Apparently I can use scripts (using a befoe submit script) so that when I update the record, the formula will calculate and store as a value. New formula values can therefore be calculated as records in a manner that can be used by reporting and OBDC.
