Help with Function (Text)

I am trying to write a function that pulls from one field if the transaction type is Cash Sale and another field if the type is Payment.  I cannot get this to work though.

CASE WHEN {type}='CashSale' THEN ABS({amount}) [WHEN {type}='CustPymt' THEN{appliedtotransaction.amountpaid}]  [ELSE 'None'] END

Would someone mind pointing out my probably very stupid error?
