How to show sales report by class?

I am trying to run a report by class.

Each item is assigned to a class:
Bodyboards
Wetsuits
Swimfins
etc

I want to know the total sales in the class "Bodyboards", "Swimfins", etc, and the percentage of total sales.

I have tried customizing the "Sales by item" report but can't seem to get it right.

Please help!
