Rank as Quartile

We are doing some RFM analysis for email marketing and I would like to define a quartile ranking to a Sum (Amount).  I've tried a couple of things using DENSE RANK, OVER, PARTITION but unable to get it working. 
Essentially the search is over the transaction table;
type =cash sale, mainline=yes
group by email, sum of amount.

If there are 1000 rows returned, then the highest 250 sum of amounts are assigned rank 1, then next 250 rank 2.... last 250 rank 4.

Assistance appreciated.
