Comparative reporting (Sales)

HI,

I am trying to customize Sales reports for my Directors that show comparatives (Prior Year), however when i run Sales report for the first quarter of this financial year, my comparative shows me the full financial year as appose to just the first quarter.
How do i adjust my report to compare apples with apples?
