Forecast by Sales Rep by Period

Hello,

The Pipeline by Sales Rep allows for the column selection to be set to month so the pipeline monthly totals will be displayed across the top of the report.

I've read in help that this is not supported on the Forecast by Sales Rep.

Two questions:
1) Why is this the case?
2) Has anyone come up with a solution for this issue? Any suggestion?

What we are looking for is a month by month sales forecast.
