SalesOrderSalesItems WSDL 2.0 -> 2.5

In 2.0 when a sales order is updated the sales order sale items are replaced, in 2.5 when the same thing happens, the sales order sales items are duplicated.

Not a criticism, just wondering; why was this default behaviour changed from 2.0 to 2.5?
