Insert text into custom field on invoice through webservices

1. We are utilizing our asp application to push invoices into NetSuite
When we push those invoices we would like to also add a 3 character text  into a custom text box field on the invoice form that our users would not be able to see.  (we are trying to compare our invoicing from our app vs netsuite)
Is there a way of doing that in webservices?
Any help would be great
