Custom Records and 'To Be Generated'

I am creating custom records though web services. The creation of the records works file, but when linking to the records 'To Be Generated' is appended to the ID of the custom record.

The 'To Be Generated' does not show up on the custom record ID.
Example
ID: PN2345
The ID appears correctly in the record and in the list.

The error occurs when linking to the record from another entity.
CustomRecord1: PN2345 To Be Generated

I have 'Include Name' unchecked for the records, and do not provide a name though web services. Is there any way to remove the 'To Be Generated' from the ID?
