error creating custom records

I'm very new to NetSuite webservices, and I'm findind documentation difficult to find and what little there is, difficult to follow too.

As it's a holiday in Canada tomorrow, many of my contact within NetSuite are on vacation, so as I need imediate help with an issue I'm turning to the communty.

first, please let me know if I have the correct understanding of the terms involved here:

Custom Record Type - this can be thought of as a database table?
Custom Record Custom Fields - these are the columns in the table?
Custom Records - this is a row of data in the table?
