looking for basic php intro guide

I'm working on integrating netsuite with an existing php based site and am having trouble getting my head around the php framework netsuite provide. I've been pointed at lots of documents that are very detailed and cover everything anyone could want to know once they know how to use the system but I can't find any basic guide for getting started.

I've looked at the sample code in the php toolkit and can understand some of what they are doing but expanding that to other areas just isn't working.

So, can anyone point me at a good beginners guide for integrating with netsuite using the php framework
