Searching For Multiple Items in One Web Services Call

I have a list of item names and need to locate the associated NetSuite internal IDs for the items. Currently I am performing a search on each item name to retrieve the associated ID, while this method works it is also very slow.

Is there any way to search for multiple item names in a single search call?
