Search CustomRecord using PHPToolkit

Does anyone have examples of searching custom records using the PHPToolkit?
What would be amazingly helpful would be a translation from a correct Java or C# example so that I can translate many of the other examples out there.  My project does not warrant learning another language.  Thanks for any help in advance.
