getting matrixOptionList from inventory item

Does anyone have any examples in C# or java of how to get matrixOptionList from an inventory item? In the response from an item search i can see the matrixOptionList and the data inside of it, but im curious on how to get this info out of it. There doesnt seem to be a built in matrixOptionList method in the NetSuite schema. Any ideas?
