SOAP api delete credit card duplicates

It seems that you can't delete a customers credit card through the SOAP api. E.g. you can add the card "4111111111111111" to a customer twice in the same update, but if you try to delete one of the duplicates by updating the customer, you get a DUPLICATE_KEYS error. I've tried submitting a list with just one of the cards, I've tried replaceAll = true and false and trying to update the cc number on one of the cards. Nothing seems to work. Is there any way to delete the duplicate through SOAP?
