Web services not tripping beforesubmit anymore

We have a custom record that is created via web services... the custom record has a beforesubmit script.  The script validates data and updates some field values prior to submitting.  This process has worked perfectly since 2008.  However, starting on Friday the beforesubmit script does not allow for the field values to be updated prior to submitting the record.  This is causing our records to be created without the correct field values.

It should be noted that the beforesubmit continues to work perfectly for records created within the UI -- it appears only records created via web services are affected.

I submitted support case 1185540 but wanted to post here so others could check their similar processes in case you are also experiencing it.
