customFieldList on Sales Order

Has anyone experienced that a new created Transaction Body Field (StringCustomRef) does not appear in the customFieldList collection? Do you know why and how can you force it to appear. The Default Access to the field is Edit for everyone and I suspect its not a permissions issue. Thanks.
