External Id on Add Customer

Is there a way to ask NetSuite to return the external Id of a Customer in the RecordRef of the WriteResponse when I add a Customer?

Right now it only the internal id and success fields of the RecordRef are given values when the WriteResponse is received. It'd be easier for me if the external id was also sent back in the RecordRef. After all, the field is there...
