Add Custom Child Records

We have some custom records that are much like an order with the main record and then the line items record.  Is there a way to add the child (line item) records as part of main record submission through web services?

We really want to run some suitescript on AfterSubmit, but if that event fires before the line items are entered, it doesn't really help. 

Is this possible?
