Selecting a period on Custom KPI

You can display a Custom KPI on the dashboard based upon a Saved Search.  The only way I can display that Custom KPI for a given period is via the filter in the Saved Search. Is there any way to have it use the selection in the Set Up of the KPIs where you can compare one period to another?
