Publishing Saved Search in List Portlet

Am I missing something?  Every time I try to publish a saved search in a List Portlet, the users in the role I am publishing to receive the default list on their dashboard portlet.  Is there a way to publish a specific search in a List Portlet without having every user manually adjust to find the specific search I want them to see?
