Formula(date) as valid date field for Key Performance Indicator portlet.

Hi, I'm trying to create a search on revenue recognition schedules and display them in a Key Performance Indicator portlet. Since the booking periods are not allowed as a date field I have created a formula(date) that converts the period into a date. I've added formula(date) as a filter, but the KPI Portlet can not filter on the formula(date).
Any suggestions?
I want to compare this months sales order revenue forecast with same month last year.
