Adding items purchased as subtab to cases

I'm trying to link items purchased by a customer as a sub-tab on the case form when the customer is selected. I thought I saw this on our evaluation system but can't find any information on how to add custom rows of data (or item purchase history). Want to be able for my support engineers to quickly see what a customer owns and the serial numbers associated with each item.

Can anyone point me to the docs, help, or explain? Really would like this.
