Web Site Tags in Templates?

Is there anyway to use the custom web site tags that I have made in message templates?  I have one called <year> that I am using in the footers of my site pages.  Since the HTML doesn't have the same scripting interface as ASP, I thought it would be simple enough to make a tag and then change it yearly and then all of my site pages and email templates would be up to date.

Any thoughts?
