estimated close date estimate -> opportunity

Hello,

I am wondering why changing the estimated close date of an estimate does not update the estimated close date of the associated opportunity?  Can someone clarify the logic there for me?  It creates a lot of confusion for our reps (looking at reports and expecting to see things they're not seeing...)
