Highlighting based on message date

Hi Everyone -

We get about 100 new leads a day via various online forms on our website that the sales staff needs to sift through daily.  I've created a saved search/view for the sales team that color codes leads/propects based on how recently they were created and/or modified.  It seemed to be working great until one day I noticed that my lead sales guy had a ton of RED leads, supposedly the worst ones, but they were all followed up with correctly.  Here's what happened:

I have 4 different colors:
GREEN - Modified this week
ORANGE - Modified before this week
